Master of Philosophy in Buddhist Studies

Master of Philosophy being a research Programme the Student is required to carry out an independent study by research on a topic suggested by him and approved by the Institute. A Supervisor is appointed by the Institute to guide the candidate. At the end of the Programme, the Student is expected to have a sound understanding on research methodology and a new contribution to the academic field of Buddhist Studies is expected.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a Master’s Degree from a recognized university in Buddhist Studies or A first or second (upper division) in a general/special Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University in Buddhist Studies or a related subject or Any other qualification considered equivalent to the above by the Faculty Board of the Institute.

Course outline

This Studies Programme requires the following fundaments.

  • Compiling a three based on the study by research.
  • Marking three presentations on the subject.
  • Sitting for a viva voce.

Course Fee

The course fee is presently Rs. 80,000 and the Registration fee is Rs. 10,000 (per year) for local Students and Course fee is USD 700 and the Registration fee is USD 200 (per year) for Foreign Students (Course Fees can be paid in two instalments). This all-inclusive fee is charged to cover lectures, tutorials, and examinations, as well as access to computer laboratory facilities and the library.

The fees should be credited to, Account No 0207 1000 0760 of the Sampath Bank in favour of Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, at the Sampath Bank Makola Branch or any branch of Sampath Bank. Normally, fees paid will not be refunded. However, requests for refund of fees may be considered if made before the expiry of one week from the date of commencement of lectures for each semester.
