“English Through Buddhism” is a program specifically designed and developed for the students in the field of Buddhist Studies in general, and in particular, the postgraduate students in the field. An English course for Buddhist Academic Studies and Research focusing on grammar and Buddhist academic terminology and concepts. The course was prepared as a response to the widely experienced deficiencies in the academic use of English Language among both English and Sinhala medium students studying Buddhism in the higher education system of Sri Lanka.

The Course comprises 30 lesson units, the first 20 of which cover all basic grammatical rules and conventions, and the last 10 being extracts covering various aspects of Buddhist studies. At the successful completion of the course the students will be skilled in reading and understanding Buddhist academic writings and writing scholarly essays. Furthermore, it is expected that students are familiar with the terminology specific to Buddhist academic studies.

The course has been developed jointly by Aditha Dissanayake (PhD), Lecturer in English, Faculty of Buddhist Studies, NIIBS, and Proffessor Asanga Tilakaratne, Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, NIIBS.
